The Woof Wear Mud Fever Boots are an innovative breathable boot which seals the leg from the knee to the base of the heel to prevent mud getting onto your horse’s legs, enabling freedom of turnout whatever the conditions.

Featuring a waterproof and breathable fabric around the cannon bone to prevent overheating and a close fitting hoof capsule with Kevlar reinforced heel protection, these innovative boots will keep legs clean and dry. A shaped PU strike pad also offers brushing protection for your horse’s legs. 

Some useful tips to remember when dealing with mud fever:

  • Never scratch the scabs, this can lead to further infection  
  • Use a mild anti-bacterial shampoo for cleansing and then ensure the leg is as dry as possible before applying any appropriate creams for healing over night
  • Clean your grooming brushes regularly as they can harbour bacteria if not kept clean
  • Don’t use dirty horse boots it can cause unnecessary and totally avoidable rubs 
  • Don’t share horse boots, this is to help prevent the spread of any bacteria or other nasties
  • Wash your own hands after cleaning any mud fever infected area, we recommend using gloves where possible

FAQ's

1. My horse is prone to mud fever – how can this boot prevent it?

The Mud Fever Turnout Boot is breathable and waterproof, preventing mud from coming into contact with the skin.

Mud fever is caused by a range of bacteria present in Mud, which thrive in warm moist environments. 

The Mud Fever Turnout Boot works by:

a. Preventing bacteria-laden mud from coming into contact with the skin

b. Allowing the skin to stay cool and dry under the boot – preventing bacteria from multiplying

2. How does the Woof Wear Mud Fever turnout boot differ from other turnout boots on the market?

Woof Wear’s Mud Fever Turnout boot is uniquely Waterproof AND Breathable and has snug fitting cuffs to prevent ingress of mud.

3. My horse has mud fever now, will these boots be suitable?

The Mud Fever Turnout boot is designed as a preventative aid, but, with veterinary guidance, this boot can be used with horses who have developed mild mud fever to stop it getting any worse. 

4. How long can my horse wear them for?

The mud fever boot saves you time and effort as well as keeping mud at bay!  They’re breathable meaning you only need to remove the boots during your daily maintenance checks, if all is well pop them back on again. 

5. Do my horses legs need to be clean before I put the boots on?

Remove all mud and bedding from your horse’s legs before fitting. The mud fever boot provides a snug fit to keep the mud out so make sure that there is nothing in the way which is likely to irritate your horse’s skin under the boot.

6. Is it ok to put damp boots back on the horse?

Best practice is to fit dry boots only. These quick drying boots mean you can ensure they are dry before putting them back on your horse after washing them.

7. How do I look after my boots? 

Clean debris from the hook and loop material, close straps before putting in the machine and wash on a 30 degrees centigrade programme with non-bio powder. Closing the hook and loop straps when not in use will help prevent debris getting caught up in them. 

8. My horse has scabs on his legs, is this mud fever?

If you’re not sure, check with your vet to be on the safe side. 

9. Can my horse wear them in the stable?

Yes they are fine for use in the stable. As an alternative option why not check out the Woof Wear Stable Boots. The wicking liners will dry the legs off if necessary whilst the Bio Ceramic liners will provide all the benefits or far infrared.

11. Do they offer any protection from brushing?

There is a degree of protection offered by the strike pad, but if your horse brushes heavily then this boot is not suitable. 

12. Do they offer any protection from overreaching?

There is a degree of protection offered by the lower Kevlar section of the boot, but if your horse is a serial overreacher then we suggest you fit an overreach boot over the top of the Mud Fever Boot.

13. Can these boots be used for photosensitivity problems? 

If you are unsure, check with your vet before using them for this issue. However the very fact that they will cover the skin and block out UV rays mean they will certainly be helpful if required. 

 

Fitting

 

  1. Open boot completely

  2. Put it around the leg and do up the top strap securely ensuring the vertical hook and loop section is located down the front of the leg

  3. Adjust the neoprene around the hoof to ensure the bulbs of the heel are covered. Pull tightly and overlap the hook and loop on the neoprene. When satisfied with the fit, smooth over the top securing straps. Then close the hook and loop strip down the front of the cannon bone

  4. Lastly, adjust the middle strap so that the material is gathered neatly but not tight against the leg. The purpose of this strap is to hold the excess material close to the leg, it is not a support strap for the boot.

 

NOTE: It is important that the neoprene around the hoof overlaps fully so the hook and loop fixture is locked in place over a large surface area. If this is not the case we recommend going up a size.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

    We accept all major Credit & Debit cards except American Express.  You can alsp pay for your order using PayPal and Paypal Credit.  

  • How much does delivery cost?

    Orders over £75 qualify for Free Delivery within Mainland UK.  Standard Delivery is £3.95.  For orders out with Mainland UK please refer to our Delivery Policy for more information.

  • How can I track my parcel for delivery?

    You can track your parcel by logging into your Ayr Equestrian account and viewing your order history.  You will also recieve an email notification once your order has been dispatched that will contain all the tracking information for your order.

  • How long will it take for my order to be delivered?

    Most of our orders placed before 1pm are dispatch for next day deilvery with DPD.  However please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be delivered.  For orders required urgently please contact the shop directly on 01292 266267 and we will endeveour to help you as best we can.  

  • How do I contact customer service?

    Please email info@ayrequestrian.com with any queries you have.  We endeavour to answer emails within three working days.  Alternatively you can call the Shop directly on 01292 266267 between 9.30am - 5.30pm daily.

  • When will my order be dispatched?

    We aim to dispatch the vast majority of our orders placed before 1pm the same day.  However please allow up to 2 working days for your order to be dispatched. 

  • What shipping provider do you use?

    The vast majority of our orders are shipped with DPD.  In some instances parcels may also be shipped via Royal Mail or My Hermes.  All parcels are shipped with tracking details.

  • What is your returns policy?

    Should you find on arrival of your product that it is the wrong size or that you simply no longer wish the item we are happy to refund or exchange your item/ items. All items must be returned within 14 days of being received.  Please refer to our Returns Policy page for full terms & conditions.  

  • Does this product come with any warranty?

    Certain products are guaranteed for 12 months with a manufacturer's guarantee, valid from the date of receipt and providing they are used in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations (fair wear and tear). If you have any questions regarding the guarantee, please ask when making your order.

  • Can I use a Gift Card online?

    Yes you can use your Gift Card for online purchases, simply enter your Gift Card code in the Apply Gift Card Box when checking out for it to be applied to your purchase.

Same day despatch

If you place an order before 1pm on a weekday and the item is in stock we will despatch your order that same day. Other orders are despatched on the next working day or asap but we will keep you informed. Orders will be despatched Mon-Fri, excluding bank holidays.

We may require a signature

To ensure you receive your order as quickly as possible, please make sure you give us a delivery address where someone will be available to accept it because many of our parcels require a signature upon delivery or simply will not fit through your letterbox. We will gladly deliver to a family member, neighbour or place of work if it is more convenient for you. In this case, please ensure you use the alternative address when placing your order.

If no-one is available to accept your order, a notice will be posted through your letterbox to explain how you can arrange redelivery or collection.

VAT exemption

Orders delivered to countries outside of the EU (including the Channel Islands) will have VAT deducted during checkout, after the delivery address has been entered. For Channel Islands, please ensure you choose Jersey or Guernsey and not United Kingdom in the country field.

Collect From Mobile Unit

You can also choose to collect your order from our mobile unit for free. A member of our team will contact you to find out where you would like to pick the item / items up from, so please ensure you provide a telephone number. Please make sure you have checked out of Show Unit page for where we will be. Please bring your order confirmation and some proof of ID (passport, driving license, payment card, utility bill).

Please note that you must collect your order in person and you will not be able to take it away without both the confirmation email and proof of identification.

European & International Delivery

Taxes, fees and levies

Additional taxes, fees or levies may apply according to your local legislation. Recipients of deliveries made outside the UK may have to pay import duty or formal customs entry fees. Any customs or import duties are charged once the goods reach the destination country and these charges are your responsibility and must be paid by the recipient. Unfortunately we have no control over these charges and cannot tell you what the cost would be as customs policies and import duties vary from country to country.

In addition, some countries have import restrictions on certain products or materials. You are responsible for determining whether there are any restrictions on delivery of our products to your selected destination. You can contact your local customs office for assistance regarding these matters.

Delivery may be delayed by local customs because of this but unfortunately this is out of our control.

International Returns

Shipping charges will not be refunded for unwanted goods that have been shipped internationally. So please make sure you order the correct size and colour before placing an order.

Braintree Payments

When you shop with us, our secure server encrypts all of your personal information, including name, address and credit card information. We use Braintree Payments which is an industry leader in secure internet transactions. Braintree Payments is used by thousands of other UK businesses for transaction security.

All transaction information passed between our website and the Braintree Payment System is encrypted using 128-bit SSL certificates. No cardholder information is ever passed unencrypted and all messages from SagePay are signed using MD5 hashing to prevent tampering. You can be completely secure in the knowledge that nothing passed to SagePay can be examined, used or modified by any third parties attempting to gain access to sensitive information.

Once on the Braintree system, all sensitive data is secured using the same internationally recognised 256-bit encryption standards used by, among others, the US Government. The encryption keys are held on state-of-the-art, tamper proof systems in the same family as those used to secure VeriSign's Global Root certificate, making them all but impossible to extract. The data they hold is extremely secure and they are regularly audited by the banks and banking authorities to ensure it remains so.

SagePay has multiple private links into the banking network that are completely separate from the Internet and which do not cross any publicly accessible networks. Any cardholder information sent to the banks and any authorisation message coming back is secure and cannot be tampered with.

No individuals within our company or Braintree are able to decrypt transaction information or cardholder data. Their systems only allow access to our most senior staff and only in extenuating circumstances (such as investigations of Card Fraud by the Police). Your card information is secure even from their own employees because the systems never display the full card numbers, even on administration screens.

PayPal

We use the industry leading internet payment company PayPal to protect your card details and protect from fraud. PayPal keep your information safe. We will never actually see your bank or credit card details, they are passed in a highly secure way directly to PayPal for processing. Industry-leading fraud prevention is just one of the reasons PayPal is a safe way to pay online. PayPal uses proprietary technology and constantly innovates to monitor transactions and maintain a secure payment system.
