Designed with front and rear ventilation slots and covered in a breathable mesh, this low profile helmet is a great choice for competing and everyday riding.

The side panels of the Ayr 8 are covered in microfibre suede, and the helmet features a leather look GRpx harness for your comfort and unsurpassed stability.

Available in regular and round fit, and a choice of classic colours and bespoke options.


  • How should my riding hat fit?

    Your hat should fit snuggly and most importantly feel even; it should not pinch, however, should feel firm when you first put it on. When trying your hat on for the first time, make sure your hair is how you would typically wear it when riding, this can make a massive impact on how your hat fits. We always like to compare the feeling of a new hat to a "firm handshake but on your head."
    However, this is only part of the picture as it is essential to check your hat has locked onto the back of your head. The helmet should ideally sit about a fingers width above your eyebrows and come down just over the lump on the back of your head, also known as your cranial base.
    To check this, you should be able to apply firm pressure to the peak, in all directions, and the hat should not move independently. As a rule of thumb, the helmet should move your eyebrows with it.

  • When I tip my head upside down my riding hat comes off, does thatmean it doesn’t fit?

    No, it doesn't necessarily mean that your hat no longer fits, as this test does not take into account your hair or other factors, however, if you are unsure of whether your hat fits or now we would always recommend going to your nearest hat fitting centre to get it checked.

  • Can I return my Hat?

    Yes, we accept hats as returns as long as they meet our returns policy.

  • Do I need to replace my riding hat once I have had an accident?

    Yes, once a helmet has been involved in an accident the safety has been compromised.

  • How Do I know if Im a Standard (Oval) Fit or a Round Fit?

    The vast majority of people have oval-shaped heads, however, a few people now have more round shapes and therefore Charles Owen has developed a round fit that is offered in several styles within their range.

    The Round fit is only available in most of the range from a 56- 59cm, this is because sizes outwith this range tend to be rounder as standard. To find out if your a round fit, the easiest way is to have someone look at your head from above if your head looks longer and narrow a standard oval fit will be best, if your head looks similar width to length then you will be better with a round fit.

    Alternatively when trying on a hat if there is excess pressure at the sides then a round fit may be a better choice, however, if the pressure is greater front to back then you should choose an oval fit. It is important to remember that Charles Owen has a vast array of shapes and sizes throughout the range, if one style fits (or doesn't) then it doesn't mean that all the hats in the range will fit you the same (or won't).
  • How should I store my riding hat?

    Riding Hats should be stored at ambient temperature out of direct sunlight. Do not subject your riding hat to temperatures above 50c or below -20c.

    After riding, if your riding hat is damp, it should be left in a warm dry place overnight. Do not store in a plastic bag before it is dry.

  • When should I replace my riding hat?

    The recommended life span of a riding hat is 3 - 5 years depending on frequency of use.  Please replace your helmet should it take on impact.

We may require a signature

To ensure you receive your order as quickly as possible, please make sure you give us a delivery address where someone will be available to accept it because many of our parcels require a signature upon delivery or simply will not fit through your letterbox. We will gladly deliver to a family member, neighbour or place of work if it is more convenient for you. In this case, please ensure you use the alternative address when placing your order.

If no-one is available to accept your order, a notice will be posted through your letterbox to explain how you can arrange redelivery or collection.

VAT exemption

Orders delivered to countries outside of the EU (including the Channel Islands) will have VAT deducted during checkout, after the delivery address has been entered. For Channel Islands, please ensure you choose Jersey or Guernsey and not United Kingdom in the country field.

Collect From Mobile Unit

You can also choose to collect your order from our mobile unit for free. A member of our team will contact you to find out where you would like to pick the item / items up from, so please ensure you provide a telephone number. Please make sure you have checked out of Show Unit page for where we will be. Please bring your order confirmation and some proof of ID (passport, driving license, payment card, utility bill).

Please note that you must collect your order in person and you will not be able to take it away without both the confirmation email and proof of identification.

European & International Delivery

Taxes, fees and levies

Additional taxes, fees or levies may apply according to your local legislation. Recipients of deliveries made outside the UK may have to pay import duty or formal customs entry fees. Any customs or import duties are charged once the goods reach the destination country and these charges are your responsibility and must be paid by the recipient. Unfortunately we have no control over these charges and cannot tell you what the cost would be as customs policies and import duties vary from country to country.

In addition, some countries have import restrictions on certain products or materials. You are responsible for determining whether there are any restrictions on delivery of our products to your selected destination. You can contact your local customs office for assistance regarding these matters.

Delivery may be delayed by local customs because of this but unfortunately this is out of our control.

International Returns

Shipping charges will not be refunded for unwanted goods that have been shipped internationally. So please make sure you order the correct size and colour before placing an order.

Braintree Payments

When you shop with us, our secure server encrypts all of your personal information, including name, address and credit card information. We use Braintree Payments which is an industry leader in secure internet transactions. Braintree Payments is used by thousands of other UK businesses for transaction security.

All transaction information passed between our website and the Braintree Payment System is encrypted using 128-bit SSL certificates. No cardholder information is ever passed unencrypted and all messages from SagePay are signed using MD5 hashing to prevent tampering. You can be completely secure in the knowledge that nothing passed to SagePay can be examined, used or modified by any third parties attempting to gain access to sensitive information.

Once on the Braintree system, all sensitive data is secured using the same internationally recognised 256-bit encryption standards used by, among others, the US Government. The encryption keys are held on state-of-the-art, tamper proof systems in the same family as those used to secure VeriSign's Global Root certificate, making them all but impossible to extract. The data they hold is extremely secure and they are regularly audited by the banks and banking authorities to ensure it remains so.

SagePay has multiple private links into the banking network that are completely separate from the Internet and which do not cross any publicly accessible networks. Any cardholder information sent to the banks and any authorisation message coming back is secure and cannot be tampered with.

No individuals within our company or Braintree are able to decrypt transaction information or cardholder data. Their systems only allow access to our most senior staff and only in extenuating circumstances (such as investigations of Card Fraud by the Police). Your card information is secure even from their own employees because the systems never display the full card numbers, even on administration screens.


We use the industry leading internet payment company PayPal to protect your card details and protect from fraud. PayPal keep your information safe. We will never actually see your bank or credit card details, they are passed in a highly secure way directly to PayPal for processing. PayPal uses proprietary technology and constantly innovates to monitor transactions and maintain a secure payment system.
